How to use old MSN Messenger without upgrading

If you dont like the newer version of MSN Live Messenger and want to use the old MSN Messenger without upgrading, Here is a short & simple hack to do so -

Close MSN Messenger completely. Use Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the task manager, select the 'Processes' tab and look for msnmsgr.exe. Right click and close process tree.

Find your MSN Messenger executable; It will usually be in C: / Program Files / MSN Messenger > msnmsgr.exe. If you installed MSN in some other drive then look for MSN in the Program Files directory of the corresponding drive.

Once you have located the executable; Right click and select Properties. Next select the Compatibility tab. Check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' and select Windows 2000 from the dropdown list.

You're all set to run your older version of MSN without upgrading now. The success of this hack depends on the updates that you have applied on your Windows PC, so it may or may not work for you. However, I would strongly recommend either upgrading your MSN Messenger or switching to another IM (if you really hate Live messenger), as the older versions of MSN Messenger had many bugs, and security loopholes which makes it easier for hackers & malware to access your system.Unfortunately, That doesn't mean that LIVE Messenger doesn't have its own set of bugs though; Although the security issues have been resolved, LIVE Messenger still eats a lot of system resources (compared to other IMs) and has a buggy and complex GUI for an IM.

thanks a lot... by the way, if msn disconnects itself, you can turn the computer into "show hidden files" mode. It won't disconnect again...

Any word on an audio fix? Everything else works fine in 8.5.. Doing a video conf call disables the audio though/can't run the setup. Anyone know of a fix yet?
